Curriculum Overview for Primary School

Matrix International Academy offers a unique hybrid curriculum that blends both Nigerian and British educational systems. This unique approach provides students with a well-rounded education and ensures they receive the best of both worlds.

The curriculum is divided into two key stages: Key Stage 1 (Year 1 & 2), Key Stage 2 Lower (Year 3 & 4), and Key Stage 2 Higher (Year 5 & 6). In Year 1, students are exposed to a total of 11 subjects, which include core subjects like Literacy (English Studies), Numeracy (Mathematics), and Science.

Other subjects taught in Year 1 include Quantitative Reasoning, Verbal Reasoning, Social Studies, History, Arts and Design, ICT, Handwriting, Religion, National Values, and Library Studies.
Year 2 builds upon the subjects taught in Year 1 and adds two additional subjects to the curriculum, making it a total of 13 subjects.

Students continue to develop their skills in Literacy, Numeracy, Science, and the foundation subjects like Quantitative Reasoning, Verbal Reasoning, Social Studies, History, Geography, Vocational Studies, Arts and Design, French, ICT, Physical and Health Education, Handwriting, Religion, National Values, and Library Studies.

As students progress to Year 3 to 5, they experience an expanded curriculum with a total of 15 subjects. This allows for a more comprehensive educational experience. The core subjects of Literacy, Numeracy, and Science remain integral to the curriculum, while the foundation subjects continue to be taught.

Additionally, students in these years are exposed to subjects like Creative Writing, Music, and Drama to further enhance their learning and creativity.
Matrix International Academy operates on a structured academic year divided into three terms: Autumn Term (1st term), Spring Term (2nd term), and Summer Term (3rd term).

Each term provides an opportunity for students to grow and progress academically. Students must successfully complete each term before they can transition into the next class.
Recognizing the importance of hands-on learning, Matrix International Academy offers various recreational clubs to supplement classroom learning.

These clubs include the Quiz & Debate Club, Mad Science Club, Library Fun Club, Press Club, Drama Club, Reading & Spelling Club, and more. These clubs provide a dynamic and interactive learning environment where students can explore their interests and talents.

To ensure every student receives adequate support, Matrix International Academy implements a two-teacher system in every class across all key stages. The lead teacher is responsible for delivering the lessons, while the teaching assistant (T.A) assists with providing individualized attention and addressing the specific needs of students.

In conclusion, Matrix International Academy offers a unique and balanced curriculum that combines the best of Nigerian and British education systems. Students benefit from a wide range of subjects, including core and foundation subjects, and have access to recreational clubs for further enrichment.

With the two-teacher system, each student receives personalized attention and support throughout their educational journey at the academy.
